After having repaired the ancient haven of Pelargir, Eärnil lays a siege on Umbar by both land and sea. Umbar becomes a harbour and fortress of Gondor.

Eärnil is lost in the sea along with many of his men and ships because of a storm off the coast of Umbar. He is succeeded by Ciryandil, his son, who becomes the fourteenth king of Gondor

Amlaith of Fornost, ruler of Arthedain dies. He is succeeded by his son Beleg. .

Ciryandil dies in a battle with the men of Harad after they muster more strength. Ciryandil is succeeded by his son Ciryaher

After having ruled Arthedain for eighty-one years, Beleg dies and is succeeded by his son Mallor

Ciryaher crosses the river Harnen and defeats the men of Harad. He takes up the name ‘Hyarmendacil’ meaning ‘South-Victor’. It is at this time that a shadow falls on Greenwood and people begin to call it Mirkwood. The Istari come to Middle Earth as messengers from the west. Cirdan gives the red ring Narya to Mithrandir. The periannath or the Halflings cross the Misty mountains

The Istari and the wise eldar discover than an evil power has made its stronghold at Dol-Guldur. This is actually the first move of Sauron after his defeat, but it is mistaken to be the sign of the return of the Nazgûl. Celepharn, son of Mallor becomes the ruler of Arthedain.

Gondor reaches the height of its power. It extends from Celebrant and the southern borders of Mirkwood in the north to the river Harnen in the south and from Greyflood in the west to the inland sea of Rhûn in the east. The reign of ‘The Ship Kings’ of Gondor ends with the death of Hyarmendacil in 1149

Atantar Alcarin, son of Hyarmendacil inherits the throne of Gondor. He was called ‘The Glorious’. But by not being vigilant, the power of Gondor begins to wane during his reign.

The Fallohides, one of the three strains of hobbits enter Eriador. The Stoors move to Dunland

Celepharn, son of Mallor becomes the fourth king of Arthedain

The reign of Atantar II comes to an end. He is succeeded by his son Narmacil who becomes the second childless king of Gondor. Narmacil, like his father does nothing to maintain the power of Gondor

Minalcar, son of Calmacil and nephew of the king Narmacil is appointed as the regent of the realm of Gondor

1248

Minalcar leads a great force to war and defeats a large army of the Easterlings between Rhovanion and the sea of Rhûn. Minalcar takes up the name ‘Rómendacil’. On his return he builds the pillars of the Argonath at the entrance to Nin Hithoel. He strengthens his friendship with the Northmen.

1250

Rómendacil sends his son Valacar to dwell with Vidugavia, who calls himself the king of Rhovanion. Valacar however falls in love with Vidumavi, daughter of Vidugavia and marries her. Out of this marriage later comes the Kin-Strife of Gondor

Celebrindor, son of Celepharn becomes king of Arthedain

1294

Narmacil, king of Gondor dies and is succeeded by his brother Calmacil. However Rómendacil retains his position as the regent of Gondor.

1300

The year of reappearance of the Ring-Wraiths. The realm of Angmar is founded in the north by the ‘Witch-King’ who is none other than the chief of the Ring-Wraiths. The hobbits migrate westwards and many of them settle at Bree. Orcs begin to increase in the Misty mountains and attack the dwarves

Death of Calmacil, king of Gondor. Minalcar is crowned as ‘Rómendacil II’.

1349

Death of Malvegil, king of Arthedain. Argeleb I, son of Malvegil become the next king. During this time the king of Arthedain claims lordship over all of Arnor. However, this claim is resisted by Rhuadaur

Arveleg, son of Argeleb becomes the king of Arthedain after his father is slain in the battle with Rhuadaur and Angmar

1366

Death of Rómendacil II. His son Valacar becomes the king of Gondor. The first disaster of Gondor begins at the end of his reign.

1409

A great host coming out of Angmar enters Cardolan and surrounds weathertop, Arveleg is slain in the battle. The tower of Amon Sûl is destroyed but the palantír is saved and taken back to Fornost. The last prince of Cardolan is slain. Araphor, son of Arveleg with the aid of Cirdan drives away the enemies from Fornost and the North Downs. The stoors living at Dunland migrate

Death of Valacar. He is succeeded by his son Eldacar who is also called Vinitharya. Civil war begins in Gondor as many of the high people object to Eldacar’s succession because of his mother who was not of the high Númenorean blood.

1437

Eldacar after resisting his opponents for many years is finally besieged at Osgiliath. It is during this time that the dome of Osgiliath is destroyed and the palantír is lost. Eldacar however escapes and comes to his kinsfolk in Rhovanion. Castamir later called ‘The Usurper’, the grandson of Calimehtar, younger brother of Rómendacil II ascends to the throne. He proves to be a very cruel king and he puts to death Ornendil, son of Eldacar

1437-1447

Castsmir’s popularity among the people of Gondor begins to wane as he proves to be a very selfish king. Eldacar meanwhile waits for an opportunity to regain his position..

1447

Eldacar brings a great army out of the north and a great battle takes place in Lebennin at the crossings of Erui. Eldacar kills Castamir, but the sons of Castamir escape to Umbar.

1448

The sons of Castamir make a refuge for all the enemies of the king at Umbar and form the beginnings of the Corsairs

1490

Eldacar dies at the age of two hundred and thirty five after having been king for fifty-eight years. Ten of these years were spent in exile. Aldamir, the second son of Eldacar becomes the next king

1540

King Aldamir of Gondor is slain in the war with the Harad and the Corsairs of Umbar. His son Vinyarion later called ‘Hyarmendacil II’ becomes the next king

1551

Vinyarion defeats the men of Harad and calls himself Hyarmendacil II.

Death of Araphor, king of Arthedain. He had ruled Arthedain for 180 years. His son Argeleb II becomes the next king

Many hobbits migrate from Bree and Argeleb II grants them the land beyond Baranduin. The hobbits are led by the fallohide brothers Marco and Blanco. Thus the foundation for the Shire is laid and this year becomes the first of the Shire reckoning.

1621

Hyarmendacil II dies and is succeeded by his son Minardil as the king of Gondor. It was from King Minardil’s steward Húrin of Emyn Arnen, that the line of the Stewards of Gondor later descended

1630

Some of the Stoors coming from Dunland also enter the Shire

1634

The corsairs led by Angamaitë and Sangahyando, the great grandsons of Castamir ravage Pelargir and slay King Minardil. Telemnar, son of Minardil becomes the twenty-sixth king of Gondor

1636

The reign of Telemnar proves short lived as a plague coming from the east kills Telemnar and all his children. The white tree also withers and dies. The plague spreads rapidly and many parts of Eriador become desolate. Tarondor, nephew of king Telemnar becomes the next king of Gondor.

1640

King Tarondor removes the king’s dwellings from Osgiliath to Minas Anor. He also plants a seedling of the White Tree. The city of Osgiliath begins to fall into ruins. Mordor is left unguarded. Tarondor rules Gondor for the longest period of 162 years. During his reign he concentrates on the restoration of order within his realm.

Death of Argeleb II of Arthedain. Arvegil, son of Argeleb becomes the next king of Arthedain

Birth of Durin VI who later becomes the King of Durin’s folk in Khazad-dûm.

Death of Arvegil. Arveleg II son of Arvegil becomes king of Arthedain

The reign of Tarondor, king of Gondor comes to an end with his death. Telumehtar becomes the new king

Telumehtar gathers his forces and attacks Umbar. The last descendants of Castamir are slain and Umbar returns for a short while to the rule of the kings of Gondor. He takes up the name ‘Umbardarcil’

Araval becomes king of Arthedain after the death of his father Arveleg II

Death of Telumehtar Umbardarcil. H is succeeded by his son Narmacil II

The third evil of Gondor after the Kin-strife and the great plague, namely the invasion of the Wainriders from the east begins.

King Narmacil II of Gondor is slain in a battle with the Wainriders beyond the Anduin. Gondor loses its eastern territories and the people of the eastern and southern Rhovanion are enslaved. Calimehtar, son of Narmacil II becomes the king of Gondor. It is supposed that the Ringwraiths re-entered Mordor at this time

Araphant becomes the king of Arthedain after the death of his father Araval. .

1899

Calimehtar gains an immense victory over the wainriders in Dagorlad

1900

Calimehtar rebuilds the White Tower in Minas Anor

1934

Birth of Thráin I, son of Náin, who later lays the foundation of Erebor

1936

Ondoher becomes the new king of Gondor after the death of Calimehtar

1940

There is a renewal of communications between Gondor and Arthedain after a long estrangement. Arvedui, son of Araphant, weds Fíriel, daughter of Ondoher, king of Gondor.

1944

The wainriders make an alliance with the men of Khand and Near Harad. Ondoher is slain in the terrible battle that followed. Artamir and Faramir, the sons of Ondoher are also slain. However, Eärnil, Captain of the Southern Army is victorious in South Ithilien. He wins the Battle of the Camp and drives the wainriders into the Dead Marshes. Arvedui claims the throne of Gondor

1945

The claim of Arvedui is rejected and Pelendur, the steward of King Ondoher plays a major role in this. The crown of Gondor is granted to Eärnil, the victorious captain who incidentally is of the royal house being the great grandson of the brother of Narmacil II. However Eärnil offers his friendship and aid to Arthedain

1964

Death of Araphant. Arvedui, his name signifying ‘The Last King’ (given to him by Malbeth the Seer), becomes King of Arthedain

1973

Messages of distress reach Gondor from Arthedain that the Witch-king was preparing for a last battle with the Northern kingdom. Eärnil sends his son Eärnur with a fleet to the north in aid of Arthedain

1974

The Witch-king of Angmar attacks Arthedain in winter capturing Fornost. Arvedui escapes and hides himself, but driven by hunger he seeks the aid of the snowmen of Forochel.

1975

Arvedui dies after the ship that Cirdan sends for him drowns in the Bay of Forochel. The northern kingdom comes to an end with the death of Arvedui. The palantíri of Annúminas and Amon Sûl are also lost. The fleet of Eärnur reaches the havens of Lindon. The Witch-King is defeated in the Battle of Fornost. He vanishes from the north. Glorfindel, the elf lord prophesies that the Witch-King would not perish at the hands of a man.

1976

Aranarth, the eldest son of Arvedui, the last king of Arthedain becomes the chieftain of the Dúnedain of the north. It was during this time that the tradition of fostering the sons of the chieftains at Imaldris begins. The heirlooms of their house namely the Ring of Barahir, The shards of Narsil, the Star of Elendil and the Scepter of Annúminas are also kept at Rivendell

1977

Frugmar, chieftain of the Éothéod leads them into the north.

1979

Bucca of the Marish from whom the Old Bucks later descended becomes the first Thain of the Shire after the Shire folk decide to rule themselves

1980

The dwarves delving deeply in Moria for mithril rouse a Balrog of Morgoth that had lain hidden there. Durin VI is slain by the balrog. The Witch-king comes to Mordor and gathers the Ringwraiths

1981

Náin, son of Durin VI is also slain by the balrog. The glory of Moria fades and the dwarves flee from Moria. The sylvan elves of Lórien also flee to the south. Amroth and Nimrodel are lost.

1998

Death of Pelendur, steward of Gondor

1999

After a number of years of wandering, Thráin I comes to Erebor and establishes a dwarf-kingdom under the mountain.

2000

The Nazgûl issue from Mordor by the Pass of Cirith Ungol and lay siege to Minas Ithil. .

2002

The fall of Minas Ithil. The Nazgûl capture the palntír of the tower. Minas Ithil becomes a place of fear and is renamed Minas Morgul.

2029

Death of Vorondil the hunter, father of Mardil Voronwë, the first of the ruling stewards. It is from Vorondil’s time that the tradition of the eldest son of the House of Stewards carrying the wild-ox horn begins..

Birth of Thorin I, son of Thráin I.

Eärnur becomes the king of Gondor after the death of king Eärnil. The king of Minas Morgul taunts him and challenges Eärnur to a single combat. However, Mardil the steward restrains the wrath of Eärnur..

The Witch-king’s challenge is renewed and Eärnur rides to Minas Morgul and is lost. Mardil begins ruling Gondor in the name of the King as no worthy claimant to the crown of Gondor is found.

The Wise of Middle earth suspect that the growing power at Dol Guldur may be Sauron taking shape again.

2063

The Watchful peace begins. Sauron hides in the east as Gandalf goes to Dol Guldur. The Nazgûl also remain quiet in Minas Morgul.

Death of Mardil Voronwë ‘The Steadfast’, first of the ruling stewards of Gondor. The successors of Mardil cease to take names in the High-Elven tongue. Eradan, son of Mardil becomes the next steward of Gondor.

Boromir becomes the Steward of Gondor as his father Denethor I dies.

Orcs make secret strongholds in the Misty mountains with the intention of barring all the passes into Eriador. The evil creatures of Sauron begin to populate Moria.

Death of King Óin of Durin’s folk. Náin II becomes the next King.

Death of the Steward Boromir. Cirion becomes the next steward of Gondor. It is during the reign of Cirion that the Rohirrim come to Calenardhon.

Celebrian is waylaid by orcs on her way to Lórien at the Redhorn Pass. She receives a poisonous wound.

Dáin I along with his son Frór are slain by a dragon at the door of their hall in the Grey Mountains.

Thrór, Dáin’s heir returns to Erebor along with Borin and a few others. However Grór, Thrór’s brother moves to the Iron Hills. Erebor begins to prosper and dwarves become friends with the men who dwell near.

Walda, king of Rohan is slain by orcs with his company when they are riding by the mountain paths from Dunharrow. He had been king only for nine years. His son Folca becomes the next King. Gandalf urges an attack on Dol Guldur when the White Council meets. Saruman however overrules Gandalf and begins to search for the Ring himself near the Gladden fields.

Saruman discovers that Sauron has learnt about Isildur’s end. Although Saruman is alarmed, he says nothing to the Council.

Thorin and Gandalf visit Bilbo. Bilbo meets Gollum and finds the One Ring. Saruman with an intention of preventing Sauron from searching the river agrees to an attack on Dol Guldur when the council meets. However Sauron abandons Dol Guldur. The Battle of the Five Armies takes place in which Thorin is slain. Bard of Esgaroth slays Smaug the Golden and Dáin II becomes King under the Mountain.

Sauron after abandoning Dol Guldur returns secretly to Mordor. Bilbo Baggins returns to the Shire with the One Ring.

Thengel, son of Fengel weds Morwen of Lossarnach in Gondor.

Bard rebuilds Dale and then becomes King. Gollum leaves the Misty Mountains in search of the thief of the One Ring.
